"Only By Night” av Kings Of Leon

Four albums into their career, Kings Of Leon has now moved toward a more commercial direction. While former Kings Of Leon fans miss the original edge of the band which we have seen throughout the first three releases, Kings Of Leon is now reaching out to a much broader audience with their album "Only By Night". With their radio hit "Sex On Fire", they are about to conquer the world of music. I do not know of we should take their slightly new sound as a good sign or not though.

But even though their new album contain more radio-friendly ballads, it is only to congratulate the energetic brothers (+ cousin). The album offers a couple of hard to the bone but still slithly cheesy rock tunes with lots of energy, such as "Crawl" and "Sex On Fire". However, as a contrast from the previous releases, several of the now songs are a lot calmer then we are used to. An example is the wonderful song "Manhattan". With a masterly bass line and Celab's beautiful, almost sore vocal, this is a song you can listen to over and over again without getting tired of it.
Other goodies are songs such as "Use Somebody" and "Nation". But be warnded, "Cold Desert" is dreadful. Kings And Leon has proven themself as a rock / indie band one should not miss in 2008. Although "Only By Night" may be somewhat weaker than in particular the two past preceding albums, the latest album has more individual, great songs. My opinion, that is.
A must buy for all Kings Of Leon fans and soon-to-be Kings Of Leon fans. If Kings of Leon is new to you, I would recomend to buy one of their previous albums first.
