I would like to go out stealing horses

Have you ever read the book "Out Stealing Horses" by the Norwegien author Per Petterson? Well, probably not, so don't! Maybe I'm just not mature enough or something, cause this book has received a lot of recognition and I have heard that the sales are doing great also in America. Even one of my favorite-magazines has even embraced this book. Wikipedia say, and i quote:

"Time magazine's Lev Grossman named it one of the Top 10 Fiction Books of 2007, ranking it at #4, and praising it as a "page-turner"."

Norwegian or not, this book is tediously boring, I had a hard time finishing it, even though it only consist of 250 pages or so. Per Petterson never again!

Who new Americans could make great indie?

Everybody has heard about Black Kids by now (I hope). They recived trumendous success with their 2008 album, Partie Traumatic, and no wonder. My current favourite by the Americans is "Hit The Heartbrakes". Hilarious lyrics! You have to agree:

I must repeat: I think you're sweet.
But ain't no way that I'm gonna meet
Your mother, your father,
Your dog or your brother,
Your nephew and niece, girl,
I just can't be bothered.

The sound on this version is crappy, but never the less, a great song.

A bit dissapointing though: They have only two coloured band members, but still they call them self Black Kids. And these two are not even black-black. The guy has an afro, though, so maybe it is allright summed up together. Ohh, I wished I had an afro.

Grandma of Rock & Roll

The greatest rock icon ever? Patti Smith only becomes better and better with the years.
Her cover of Nirvana's Smells like teen spirit is awesome.

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

Oh yea, and she got so many other beautiful songs as well. I say listen to them, please!

I sinsceraly hope she hasn't smoked too many sigarettes, cause I hope she will continue giving us wonderful music in the years to come. Everybody hail Patti Smith.

"Only By Night” av Kings Of Leon

Four albums into their career, Kings Of Leon has now moved toward a more commercial direction. While former Kings Of Leon fans miss the original edge of the band which we have seen throughout the first three releases, Kings Of Leon is now reaching out to a much broader audience with their album "Only By Night". With their radio hit "Sex On Fire", they are about to conquer the world of music. I do not know of we should take their slightly new sound as a good sign or not though.

But even though their new album contain more radio-friendly ballads, it is only to congratulate the energetic brothers (+ cousin). The album offers a couple of hard to the bone but still slithly cheesy rock tunes with lots of energy, such as "Crawl" and "Sex On Fire". However, as a contrast from the previous releases, several of the now songs are a lot calmer then we are used to. An example is the wonderful song "Manhattan". With a masterly bass line and Celab's beautiful, almost sore vocal, this is a song you can listen to over and over again without getting tired of it.
Other goodies are songs such as "Use Somebody" and "Nation". But be warnded, "Cold Desert" is dreadful. Kings And Leon has proven themself as a rock / indie band one should not miss in 2008. Although "Only By Night" may be somewhat weaker than in particular the two past preceding albums, the latest album has more individual, great songs. My opinion, that is.
A must buy for all Kings Of Leon fans and soon-to-be Kings Of Leon fans. If Kings of Leon is new to you, I would recomend to buy one of their previous albums first.

Welcome to "A Moment Of Insanity"

Because this is my first post, I guess noone will read this. Either way, I have to start with something. In this blog I will write about books, movies and most important: music!
